Reprint. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 470pp, ninth edition, half-title present but title page lacking, probably c. 1830, in old maroon cloth binding of mid-19th Century Dublin parochial school library, a little paper discoloration, but text body generally very good. The binding is quite sound and tight, though plain, with only the library book number 45 in gilt on the spine. This book was probably originally issued in a flimsy binding, and rebound without its title page after being later donated probably in this damaged form to the library. It does not appear to have been consulted since its rebinding.. Hardcover.

Includes a newspaper clipping from the National Intelligencer, "The Last Loco Foco's Lament & The Reason Why," pro-William Henry Harrison campaign poems. Evans 28033. <br> Detailed provenance: From the library of Dr William Whitridge (1747–1831) of Rhode Island. The book was later owned by Dr John Whitridge (1791-1878), William's son, who was a prominent Baltimore physician. Dr. John Williams was the founder of academic obstetrics in the United States and a professor at Johns Hopkins. Additional note: This volume isn't signed by Whitridge, but came from a library of the families' books.

Cadell and Davies..., 1797. 12mo, pp. 250, contemporary tree calf, spine ornately gilt in compartments to a bird motif, red morocco label; slight wear to top and base of joints, but an attractive copy, with the contemporary armorial bookplate of (probably) Thomas Mills, the Bristol bookseller on the front paste-down end-paper.. Not in Norton.

Cambridge: Printed by J. Archdeacon...For T. and J. Merrill...[et al], 1777. Small 8vo, pp. [ii], 304, contemporary calf, spine gilt in compartments, red leather label (chipped); lacks blank prelims, corner cut from title-page and succeeding leaf, front joint cracked, binding scratched and worn. This above work was written in a month, and Gibbon in his Vindication referred to Watson respectfully, describing him as "the most candid of adversaries." This second edition not listed in Norton.

Cambridge: J. Woodyer, Etc.. 1776. VG with a bit of minor offsetting to flyleaf, and edge spotting to a few pages, thin age crack length of spine but overall a tight solid copy. ; 16mo, bound in original full tree calf with gilt embellishment and lettering, burgundy label on spine, marbled endpapers. Book reprints letters written by Dr. R. Watson while he was Professor of Divinity in the University of Cambridge to Edward Gibbon, author of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. .
