Description:
Kuala Lumpur: University of Malaya Press, 1961. 2017. Paperback. New/N/A. In this comprehensive work the author attempts to piece together the historical geography of the peninsula before more reliable written records started appearing from the mid 16th century onwards. The work was ground breaking because for the first time Wheatley painstaking re-examines whatever first hand resources were available rather than relying on second hand translations and suppositions. This 388 page book is divided into seven parts namely I - China & the Malay Peninsula, II - The Malay Peninsula as Known to the West, III - The Indians in Malaya, IV - The Arabs in Malaya, V Three Forgotten Kingdoms, VI - The Isthmian Age, and VII - A City that was Made for Merchandise. There are also numerous maps, diagrams and a bibliography of more than 40 pages. New Paperback Reprint Originally published in 1961 Weight 0.8kg. Post free within Malaysia

Description:
1961. First edition, first printing. First edition, first printing. Publisher's original yellow cloth boards and gilt titles on green to the spine, with dustwrapper. Illustrated throughout with 52 maps and diagrams in black and white. A near fine copy, the binding tight and square, with bumping to the spine ends and corners. The contents, with light spotting to the endpapers, a small booksellers stamp on the front pastedown and name to the front endpaper, are otherwise clean. The closed textblock is spotted to the top edge and fore-edge, which has bled a little onto a few pages. Complete with the lightly rubbed and creased dustwrapper, that is toned to the spine, but otherwise free from loss or tears. Not price clipped (45s. net to the front flap). A 'compendium of references' on the areas historical geography, which is little known because of the effect of climate on physical archaeology and lack of indigeneous writings before the 16th century.
