Betty Lou Young (May 18, 1919 – July 1, 2010) was a conservationist, and writer of several books on the Pacific Palisades area. She became deeply involved in her local community of Rustic Canyon, Los Angeles, and spent 50 years chronicling the history and protecting it's small-town profile. In 1954, the family moved into what Betty Lou described as a ‘ranch house knockoff’ on Latimer Lane, kitty-corner from Rustic Canyon Park and the historic eucalyptus grove, which she spent decades protecting from neglect and abandonment. In the 1960s she campaigned to preserve the Santa Monica Mountains against plans for commercial and residential development. Betty Lou’s foray into book publishing grew from a political threat.
