First printing, no others stated. Hermann Zapf (1918 – 2015) was a German typeface designer and calligrapher who lived in Darmstadt, Germany. His career in type design spanned the three most recent stages of printing: hot metal composition, phototypesetting (also called cold type), and digital typesetting. His two most famous typefaces, Palatino and Optima, were designed in 1948 and 1952, respectively. Most items ship with tracking numbers and (generally over $15.00) jacket protectors if applicable. Clean recycled packing material will be used when possible.

Laid in is a single sheet of holiday greetings, folded twice, "With all good wishes for 1989", from Gudrun und Hermann Zapf. A fine copy in a near fine, clean DW with a bare hint of edgewear and one minute spot on the rear panel, in archival mylar.

Designed by Zapf and nicely printed in West Germany. Signed by Zapf in blue ink at the colophon. Loosely inserted into this copy are 16 leaves measuring 9 1/2 by 6 1/2 inches, each specimen displaying the complete characters of several Zapf typefaces, in different sizes, printed from the foundry type. The typefaces are Palatino Roman and Italic, Michelangelo and Sistina. These specimen sheets were set and printed by Leonard Bahr at his Adagio Press and came from his personal files. A fine copy in a near fine DW with one small closed tear at the upper front tip.
