Description:
New York: Egmont Arens at the Washington Square Bookshop, 1919. Volume one, double number 4/5 (of nine numbers published). Folio. Pictorial wrapper. Plates. Spine neatly split, with some dust-soiling to wrapper; the conjugate first and last three leaves are printed on the usual very poor colored papers and are thus somewhat fragile and detached (but whole); a slightly above average copy of an issue that is difficult to find in anything approaching fine condition. Edited and published by Egmont Arens. An attractive and highly important Village magazine, featuring prose, poetry or artwork by both residents and those abroad. Published at irregular intervals, through nine numbers (with the present 4/5 being a double number), and the final number dated July 1924. Although well-represented in institutional holdings, issues of Arens's PLAYBOY are now uncommon in the trade. This issue includes contributions by Stuart Davis, D.H. Lawrence, A. Walkowitz, "Emanuel Morgan," Evelyn Scott, Oliver Sayler, Matise,… Read More
