Small signed ownership label on front endpaper bearing the signature of J. S. Rumsey, Chicago; light edge-wear. Although Lord Lytton (1803-1873) the English novelist and secretary for the colonies never visited Australia, he included Australian episodes in this novel that was first published in 1849. The signature is possibly that of Julian Sidney Rumsey (1823-1886) who was the Republican Mayor of Chicago in the early 1860s.

Corners lightly bruised; foot of spine bumped; single smudge to top wrap. From the Gargoyle Poets series (no. 31). Billy Jones was born in New Jersey, served as a marine in Japan in the 1950s and arrived in Australia in 1966. He lived for many years on a farm north of Brisbane and all the poems in this collection were written there.
