Binding square and solid, hinges as-new, boards clean and bright, pages lightly tanned but show no wear, everything crisp and clean, frontis illustration plus several line drawings in text. This is the last novel by F. Hopkinson Smith, completed after his death by his son F. Berkeley Smith.

Hatherell, one plate loose, fore-edges slightly darkened, former owner's name on front endpaper otherwise unmarked. Includes glossary of Africaans vocabulary on page 471. A very nice copy of this antique book, no DJ as issued.
