Wraps mostly split at the fold & now repaired with archival tissue on the verso, soiled, edge wear, previous owner's name in ink on the upper wrap (Buchinger ?), text browned, light foxing/ toning mostly evident on the versos of the plates, otherwise good or better.

A splendid exhibition catalog with "87 color plates and 42 halftones." Richard Guy Wilson, who supplies the Introduction, is Commonwealth Professor in Architectural History at the University of Virginia and a a noted architectural historian.

The images measure 7.75 inches by 9.5 inches (or the reverse) & are mounted to thick card stock (14" x 17") Most of the photos are numbered in the negative & the mounts each bear the imprint of the photographer, with his Bond Street, New York address. The author was an architect & archaeologist who notes in the preface that "After Rome Salona is the most important urban area on European soil for the studies in archaeology of early Christianity ..."

The author was secretary of the New York State Tenement House Commission & instrumental in drafting the New York State Tenement House Act which mandated better fire exits and running water for bathrooms in every tenement.

Editor & contributor Camille Aboussouan was Ambassador of Lebanon to the UNESCO & additionally a bibliophile whose library was sold at Sotheby's London in 1993

Portfolio quite worn: cloth frayed, boards detached, ties damaged, browned. Plates with occasional edgewear including small losses & short tears, otherwise good.
Includes plans & illustrations from photographs of villas in the Landes region of France. Henri Godbarge was one of the first theorists of the Neo-Basque style.

New York, 34th & Broadway: Macy's Furniture Department, ninth floor/ (R. H. Macy & Co.), no date, ca. 1920. Original die-cut brochure in the shape of a make-up box. Single sheet measuring approximately 16.75 inches by 8 inches folded twice to 8 inches by 6 inches, printed on medium card stock. The brochure opens to reveal 4 fabric samples behind die-cut windows & brief promotional text. Not found in OCLC as 7/22/2023.
Moderately soiled, slightly rubbed, brief evidence of erasure & a bit of foxing at the back panel, otherwise very good.
A very clever promotional piece which asks the eternal questions & provides solutions:
"What's wrong with your living room? Are the fabrics wrong? Is there too much of the same color? That won't happen when you buy sofas, and chairs at Macy's! Lot of two original untitled hand-colored photos on double weight paper depicting interior views furnished in colonial style. No place [Framingham, Massachusetts], no date [circa 1915]. One measuring 3.75 inches by 5.75 inches tipped at the top to card stock measuring 7.75 inches by 9.75 inches, the other measuring 2.5 inches by 4.75 inches tipped to card stock measuring 6.75 inches by 8.75 inches. Both are signed in ink by Nutting in the mount just below the image.
Photographs slightly faded, mounts browned & soiled mostly on the verso, easily Very Good or better.
A lovely pair of Wallace Nutting's "Colonials," one depicting a seated woman amidst colonial furnishings in front of a roaring fire, the other showing three women at tea.

Presents the author's essay on Rippon Lodge, the oldest remaining house in Prince William County, Virginia, which was built in 1725 by an ancestor & purchased by Black in 1952. Admiral Richard Blackburn Black accompanied Richard E. Byrd's second antarctic expedition in 1933 for which he was awarded a Special Silver Medal by Congress. During World War II he served in the Tarawa and Saipan campaigns and subsequently received a Bronze Star.
