Seoul, South Korea: Dijain Hausu, 1994 First edition. Small square 4to, 143, [1] pp, including numerous color illustrations from photographs. Publisher's black-lettered pale green cloth in pictorial dust jacket Ribbon marker sewn in, text in Korean. Upper margins of the covers slightly sunned, otherwise very good or better in lightly soiled dust jacket with moderate edge wear including a two inch closed tear, still better than good. An engaging volume presenting the culture, manners and customs of Korea.

Tokyo: Shinkenchiku Sha, (1974). First edition thus. Complete in two quarto volumes, one with 100 accordion folded plates on double leaves (26 in color); the other (47 pp plus folding timeline chart) providing descriptive text in Japanese with English translation. Publisher's gilt-threaded black silk with printed paper title labels on the upper covers, in folding sleeve & slipcase, both in matching black silk, the slipcase lettered in gilt on the spine, with printed paper title label on the upper cover. Both volumes slightly soiled, small spot on the blank verso of the timeline in the text volume, sleeve & slipcase briefly soiled & lightly rubbed, otherwise Near Fine. A one volume edition without English translation was published in 1973.

Tokyo, Japan: Kofu-En Bonsai Nursery/ Yugi Yoshimura, no date in English, circa 1950's ? Duodecimo (7" x 5"), 34 unnumbered pages with illustrations from photographs of 58 Bonsai trees. Original stapled paper wraps. Text in Japanese except for rubber-stamped notice quoted in part above.
Moderately soiled, brief edge wear, otherwise Very Good.
Yoshimura (1921 - 1997) was a distinguished bonsai master largely credited with introducing traditional Japanese techniques and aesthetics to Western bonsai enthusiasts.

No place [Yokohama?], T. Enami & others, no date (ca. 1890s). Oblong Folio (12.5" x 15.5"), contemporary pictorial black lacquered boards inlaid in relief with bone, containing fifty hand-colored albumen photographs measuring generally 7.75 " x 10" mounted recto and verso to 25 thick card leaves, with tissue guards interleaved. Forty-four of the images are titled in the negative.
Binding worn: spine perished, boards and front free endpapers detached (boards remarkably well preserved although lacking one small inlaid piece), most tissue guards creased and torn, mounts with slight wave and sporadic foxing/ soiling, 3 photos with minute losses at the edges, a few slightly faded or under exposed, most fresh and rich in tonal quality.

Moderate edge wear including a couple of tiny losses, lightly rubbed, soiled, & tanned, otherwise Very Good.
The author was then Assistant Professor of Political Science at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. Her study is based on extensive travels in sub Saharan Africa & hundreds of interviews with tribal leaders & private individuals. Interestingly, a rubber-stamped statement on the rear wrap identifies the Information Service of South Africa as a registered foreign agent & that said registration does not "indicate approval of this material by the United States Government."

Slightly toned & soiled, trace edge wear, otherwise Near Fine.
A very cool card depicting, presumably, a fat cat banker bull peering through spectacles at a duck carrying a sign reading "Good Times Coming." Publisher Marcus Ward was based in London & the theme of the card almost certainly reflects the depression caused by the Baring Crisis of 1890.
