Publisher's full brown leather, the spine in five compartments separated by raised bands, elaborately lettered & decorated in gilt. All edges gilt, ribbon marker sewn in, moire fabric endpapers.
A Fine & apparently unread copy.
A nice copy of Drury's stunning novel which was characterized by Jonathan Karl as a "compelling portrait of American social and political history." The book was awarded the 1960 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.

Autograph in ink on engraved United States Senate Chamber admission pass which has not been filled out. [Washington, D.C.], no date (circa 1930). Measures 2.75 inches by 4.25 inches, with annotation in ink in a different hand at the bottom of the card: "1928 - 1932."
Removed from a scrapbook leaving remnants of glue residue & paper on the verso, lightly toned, otherwise Very Good.
Charles Curtis, 31st Vice President of the United States, elected with Herbert Hoover, was a member of the Kaw Nation and the first Native American to reach either of the highest offices in the federal executive branch.

An appeal for donations by the States Rights Council presumably of Arkansas who note:
"We either stand together in this fight against Federal Encroachment or fall one-by-one. TAKE YOUR CHOICE."

[New York]: Sold at 13 Park Row, New York, and at all Democratic Newspaper Offices," [1864]. First edition. 8vo, [3] - 10 pp. (as issued). Self wraps, removed. Text in two columns. Light edge wear along the folded side, small loss just touching text affecting pp. 5/6, otherwise Very Good. A supporter of George McClellan, Ticknor writes in part: "No more awful spectacle can be contemplated than that of a great, powerful and energetic nation, who have no rule of action but the rule of a written Constitution, and who have lost their fidelity to its requirements. We have been so situated through three whole years of Civil War, that it has been in the power of extreme and violent men to denounce a pure and high regard for the limitations of our fundamental law as treason to the Union ..." The author, who was co-counsel for Dred Scott, concludes his essay with a series of "Mottoes fot the Campaign" selected from the writings of McClellan.

Decrying Henry George, Edward Bellamy & others, Gordon writes in conclusion, "And yet, however far the mighty vessel that bears us all, may seem of late to have veered from her course, because that I do believe in the ultimate saving common sense and patriotism of the plain American citizen, I look with confidence to some future day for her safe return to her charted and certain path."

[Leesburg, Virginia]: National Historical Society/ Weider History Group, (2008). Facsimile reprint edition, originally published in 1905. 11 volumes only of 12 (lacking volume 12). Octavos (9" x 6"), variously paginated, with illustrations, facsimiles (some folding), & portraits. Publisher's one-half brown faux leather simulating crushed morocco & green cloth, the spines lettered & ruled in gilt, each volume with the facsimile signature of Abraham Lincoln in gilt on the upper cover. Top edges of the text blocks a little dusty, volume xi with small, unobtrusive white streak at the bottom of the spine, otherwise Fine. Please note, this set is lacking volume xii which includes an anthology & part of the index. An important set in an attractive binding, now out of print, which was available serially from the publisher in 2008 for $24.95 per volume. Shipping weight is 21 lbs.

Single sheet uncut (18.5" x 12") folded forming 8 pp. Tattered including losses & tears in the margins (text unaffected), creased, foxed, & stained, good or so & still quite useful. "Relates particularly to expenses as superintendent of Indian Affairs for Michigan and neighboring territory" (Abstract, OCLC).

Toned, moderate edge wear including short tears, good or better. Supported by tables, charts, & extracts from news accounts, the author alleges "over 2,500 erasures and alterations in the ledgers of the offices of the Registrar and Secretary of the Treasury" during the tenure of Ulysses S Grant.

Presents a list of accomplishments as a result of the policies of FDR by year, despite Republican obstruction, as the country emerged from the devastation of the Great Depression. In closing, the text reads as follows:"The Roosevelt Administration has aided business by direct loans, sound banking, encouragement of private investment through long-term, low interest loans, and rebuilding of buying power through the spend-lend program."

Washington, D.C.: W.D. Wallach. Lot of 9 issues, broken run: Volume xiv, numbers 2058, 2061, 2062, 2073, 2076, 2077, 2078, 2079, & 2098, September, October, & November, 1859. First editions, original broadsheet newspapers, single sheets measuring 22 inches by 29 inches folding once vertically forming 4 pages each.
Old folds, tattered, creased, some losses (text mostly unaffected), small rubber stamp in the margins, good or so & still quite useful.
The Washington Evening Star was founded in 1852 by Captain Joseph Borrows Tate. In 1853, Tate sold an interest to William Douglas Wallach who became sole owner in 1855. Thereafter, he shortened the name to the Evening Star and introduced the Sunday edition. The paper was noted for coverage of the Civil War and was long the paper of record for the Nation's Capital. After a run of 128 years, publication ceased in 1981.
