[1871]. General wear. . The German Peace Festival was celebrated all across the US in most major cities (including but not limited to New York, Baltimore, Washington DC and even Honolulu! The festival was to commemorated the end of the Franco-Prussian War. The festival in the cities consisted of large parades with floats, soldiers in uniform, and German singers. The engraving itself takes up nearly the entire front page of the single fold unused lettersheet. The main portion of the engraving shows a parade serpentining the sheet, with a variety of parade floats, squadrons of men on horseback or marching in uniform, German and American flags, and marching bands. At the top of the page are three close ups of sections of the parade. The first features several men in uniform on horses pulling a float with the Goddess of Victory, Nike, on top. Contains examples of a total of 85 letters for nearly circumstance one can imagine. From a young tradesman to his father to from a sailor to his wife and From a young man whose Master had lately died to an urgent demand of payment. A pair of copybooks originally belonging to a young girl named Susan Shoemaker who most likely lived in or around Philadelphia, PA (Walnut Grove) in the 1850s. The titles of the copybooks are: 'The American System of Penmanship in Three Parts: Ten Numbers, No. 9' (OCLC 4, Dec 2019) published by Uriah Hunt & Son in Philadelphia, PA in 1842, with the penmanship system itself by George J. Becker and 'Leary's Cheap Book Store Copybook' (OCLC 0, Dec 2019) published by Leary's Cheap Book Store in Philadelphia, PA, with no date. Each page of both books features a new sentence, the majority of which are quite lengthy and have a moral undertone. Boston, MA: Cutter Tower & Co.. General wear.. This blank notebook has been partially filled out with an account of the expenditures of an unknown individual, dating form 1870-1880. It lists sold products such as apples and pears and payments for services, taxes, etc. Many of the entries include buyer or seller's name. The first entry is the purchase of Brewster Farm for $3,000. Shortly after L.L. De'Rochement purchased a portion of the farm for $700. The front cover has a large engraving of a hand holding a pen with a decorative border.
