Description:
An absolutely unique document, this is a bound collection of documents relating to the New York State Boys' Working Reserve. The Working Reserve was a program set up before World War I to help alleviate a farm worker shortage as people migrated from farm to city and then as men were drafted for WWI. High school students, mainly boys and many city boys, were recruited to work on upstate farms. This report documents the achievements of the program and includes production statistics as well as summary letters from the boys and the farmers they worked for. This is not a typical printed book but rather a collection of hand typed pages and 2 pages with photographs. The binding is firm. Red cloth boards are rubbed and lightly soiled. There is the remains of a sticker on the front cover. One photograph has been removed tearing the page to which it was attached. Your purchase helps support our small village library. sF2
