An attractive looking hardover set of nine books written by Sir Walter Scott the titles are: Bride of Lammermoor, Guy Mannering, Heart of Midlothian, Kenilworth, Old Mortality, Red Gauntlet, Rob Roy, The Abbot and The Talisman. Red cloth binding with gilt stamping on the spines, some shelf wear to the spines, see photos. Gilt tops, edges aged, some mottling to endpapers, text appears unmarked. Pre 1883 hardcover as shown. A very nicely bound volume that has seen considerable wear but retains a handsome appearance. The binding is generally intact though the frontispiece and title page have come loose. Brown cloth boards with beveled edges are embossed and stamped in black and gold. Boards are lightly soiled and rubbed with fraying at top and bottom of spine and at corners. Inscribed and dated 1883 on FFEP. Gilt edge to text block. Text is tanned but clean and unmarked.
