First Edition. Very Good / Good. Founded in 1908 at Howard University, AKA was the first African American sorority. The late Dr. Parker was the author of 2 previous books about the history of AKA. The book has scratches on the spine, and there is some underlining and parenthesis in the text. The previous owner (an AKA member) is written on the front free end page. The dust jacket has scratches and paper loss on the spine and half inch tears on the top and bottom of the spine. There is a half inch tear at the front flap, as well as shelf and edge wear. Included is the booklet: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.: Alpha Xi Omega Chapter (Dallas area), 2000 Pictorial Directory; a 96 page softcover book.

DeRidder, Louisiana is in Beauregard Parish, north of Lake Charles, near the Texas border. It was formed when the railroad from Kansas City to Port Arthur went through in 1896. The book is in fine, like new condition, which is pretty amazing for a big, white paperback book. There is no copyright page, just a letter from the mayor. On page ii, there are facsimile signatures of 20 DeRidder residents who produced this centennial book. I couldn't find another copy for sale.
