61 full page black and white photographs by world renowned photographer Josef Koudelka. Born in Czechoslovakia, he became an exile following the Russian invasion of Prague in 1968 after he smuggled out photographs of the invasion. He left in 1970 and ultimately become a French citizen. He understood exiles. His work is displayed in major museums and he's won awards. An introductory essay by Czeslaw Milosz, who was in the Polish resistance in WW II, has taught a U Cal Berkeley and Harvard and won a Nobel Prize for Literature in 1980. Presumed first edition of the self selected 100 images of Nara, Japan by Taikichi Irie, who is internationally renowned and venerated in Japan for his photography. This book was published just before his death in 1992 and some of the selections were made in his last days. Book is published by the Nara City Museum of Photography which changed it's name to the Taikichi Irie Museum of Photography in 1992. The book has very slight discoloration on the grained white soft cover and has been very gently read; no bumps, bends or markings. Listed as near fine.

Laura Wilson spent 6 years as head wrangler for Richard Avedon's photography exhibition "In the American West". During that time, she stumbled on Hutterite communities in rural Montana. The Hutterites are less assimilated that the Amish and the Mennonites. She got to know them for 2 years before they would let her photograph them (and then only in black and white). Over the next 14 years she assembled these photographs and stories from this unique group. She has dedicated the book to her sons, Andrew, Owen and Luke, well-known movie actors. Archival photographs of Hawai'i from 1879 to 1910. The photographer was a Danish businessman who moved to Hawai'i in 1878 and began taking photographs. The negatives and plates were discovered in the possession of his grandson and cleaned and printed by the Bishop Museum in Honolulu. The book is in near fine condition. There is a barely perceptible water stain on the upper right front. There is no jacket, as issued. The corners are square, and the pages are clean and unmarked.

Signed. Edward Steichen included Roy Decarava's photographs in the 1955 Museum of Modern Art exhibition, 'The Family of Man'. In 1952 he became the first African American artist to receive a Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship. He's originally from Harlem and his subjects are from contemporary urban culture.
