The M K Brown Range Life Series, Number One. Written by the wife of Bob Duke, the last manager of the XIT to run cattle. Mrs. Duke was born in 1877. The ranch was the largest ranch under fence in the country, it is in the far northwest part of the Texas Panhandle. The book has 36 pages of b&w archival photos and 3 maps. Mrs. Duke kept a diary her whole life, which is the basis for the book. The book is in very good condition with slight foxing on the front edge. The corners are square, and the binding is tight. The dust jacket is worn at the front right edge and is torn on the back at the top. The co-author, Joe Franz was a history professor at the Univ. of Texas. He has inscribed signed and dated on the half title page. The book is protected in mylar.

He got photos of important celebrities when they came to Dallas: Martin Luther King, Ella Fitzgerald, Joe Louis and Thurgood Marshall to name a few. His photos of regular folks are the best though. Everybody in Texas knew the name Billie Sol back then, older folks still do. He went to prison twice: once for the crime and another for not paying taxes on the crime. He said he knew everybody in politics on the outside and everybody in organized crime on the inside. He was about as colorful as it gets. The book is in very good condition. The Jacket has moderate shelf wear with lightly bumped corners. The pages are clean and unmarked. Nearly unread condition. Signed on the title page "God loves you and so do I, Billie Sol Estes, Jan. 10, 2006". There is another inscription to a recipient which is also signed by Billie Sol on the front flyleaf.

He was embroiled in the voting irregularity allegations about Lyndon Johnson in 1948. The book is in fine, like new condition.
