Description:
The Ashanti are a civilization in Ghana, West Africa. They have gold there. Early traders have known about it for 3000 years. Around 1900 the locals took control of their own resource, and it is now 25 percent of their export economy. The book gives a very comprehensive explanation of all aspects of gold, including old tribal ornamentation. The edition is not stated, nor is the date so I have presumed first edition. Professor Ayensu was the President of the Pan African Union for Science and Technology. The author has inscribed and signed.

Description:
More than just photos of jewelry, the author writes about the history, cultural influences, materials, craftsmanship and historical trade routes. Traditionally the nomadic Bedouins owned what they could carry on their head, their bodies or on their camels. That way of life hardly exists anymore. The author, an Australian lived in Saudi Arabia for a decade and became knowledgeable about the subject. She wrote the book in the 1970's and the Bedouin, as nomads, were almost gone then. The book is in fine condition, the dust jacket, near fine with only very slight wear. The jacket is protected in mylar, which is pretty scuffed up, so I just left it on for protection. Second edition. No interior markings.
