Albert Bierstadt (1830 – 1902) was one of the most renowned landscape painters in the United States during the nineteenth century. Born in Germany to a family who emigrated to New Bedford, MA in 1832, Bierstadt was the epitome of the American success story, achieving fame and fortune through his dramatic panoramic paintings of the far west. This 1942 blue hardcover is signed by Saul Raskin in upper left of first page. There is a second signature below that in the center of the page, but I have no idea what it means. This book has cover damage especially on spine and edges. Spine has been re-glued. There are also stains on inside covers. The text is fine, very readable, and maybe some minor browning through age.
