Description:
London: George G Harrop and Co. Ltd, 1933. Signed Limited Edition. Fine. A limited edition of 460 signed by Rackham. An inspired anthology drawn from "old favourites of the nursery...Most of them had a long and eventful life of oral tradition before somebody who could write caught them as they flew and consigned them to cold print" [Illustrator's Preface]. Classics by Hans Anderson such as "The Ugly Duckling" and "The Emperor's New Clothes" and Charles Perrault's "Cinderella" and "Puss in Boots" appear with tales from 'The Arabian Nights' and the traditional English folk tale "Jack and the Beanstalk" and Washington Irving's American classic "Rip van Winkle". Published near the end of his remarkable career, Rackham with characteristic rich earth-tones illustrates a mythical fairy world in this beautifully published edition. He is mindful of belonging to an ancient tradition of story-telling and notes "in our own day, inspired story-tellers go on adding original characters to the stock-an Alice, a…

Description:
Melbourne: Melbourne Publishing Company, 1918. First Edition. Esther Paterson. Esther Paterson was born in 1892 in Carlton in Melbourne and was a student at the National Gallery of Victoria from 1907 -1912. Throughout her career, she contributed cartoons to The Bulletin Magazine, Punch, and The Argus and her portraits of civilian officers were exhibited at The Australian War Museum. Her first published collection, Aussie Girls presents a stylish and sultry line up of illustrations of attractive women interacting from on high with doll-size men in uniform. Paterson, niece of John Ford Paterson, was also well known as a landscape painter. In this work she combined her skill as an illustrator and her wit as a commercial artist to amuse post-war Australian society, now used to seeing women in more assertive and independent roles. In 1966, Paterson was awarded a silver medal in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the community when she became a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).…

Description:
Racine (Wisconsin): Whitman Publishing, 1935. First Edition. Rare pirate 'pop-up' edition of Dorothy Wall's classic story about the young koala called Blinky Bill. This text is taken from the first Blinky Bill story, with all the associated images, and includes "magic action" pop-up interpretations of three of these. Such was the international appeal of Dorothy Wall's character that only two years after the appearance of the first Blinky Bill story, this pop-up book was published in America. Ironically this pirated publication, which never appeared in Australia, was protected by copyright and two separate patents! [Muir, 7845.]. Small square octavo, three double-page colour pop-up plates; a very good copy in the original stiff pictorial wrappers.

Description:
London: Methuen, 1934. Wall, Dorothy. First edition of this scarce and finely-produced work. Although published a year after the first Blinky Bill title, the illustrative style of Bridget and the Bees harks back to Wall's delicate drawings for J.J. Hall's The Crystal Bowl, published in 1921, and suggests that it was written and illustrated well before its publication date. This is the rare English edition, which was followed by an American edition in 1935. Large octavo, eight plates in colour (including the frontispiece), rebound in half brown cloth retaining original papered boards, endpapers renewed, a good sound copy.
