Decorative endpapers incorporating the author's initials in an attractive design. Tissue-guarded color frontis and seven other color illustrations, as called for, by Harper Pennington. Hinges are tender. Front gutter netting shows through. Upper corner tip missing on free front endpaper. Shelf rubs at board tips and spine ends. Minor foxing. Withal, about GOOD condition.

Publisher's blue wrappers with maroon upper wrap lettering, 12mo, pp. 65 plus ads. A Comedy in Three Acts Telling the Charming Life Story of Stephen C. Foster. First presented on January 19, 1926, at Woodland Park Auditorium, Lexington, Kentucky. Wrappers with some toning and old creases. GOOD condition with a few random nicks on wrapper and page edges. Protected from further wear now in a clear new Ultra-Pro sleeve.

Reprinted from Volume 47, Number 3, July, 1973 Issue of The Filson Club History Quarterly, Louisville, Kentucky, in stapled wrappers, octavo, and paginated 267-283. A bit of a rumpled affair, as though consulted frequently by previous owner. Wrappers are toned and have some light old tide marks the color of weak tea. Protected now in a clear display sleeve with white card-stock backing board.

Publisher's stapled gray wrappers, quarto, pp. 25. Previous owner name inside front wrapper. Wrappers with a good deal of generalized wear: toning, corner bumping, spine rubbing, rear panel creasing. About GOOD condition, notwithstanding, and protected now from further wear in a clear new Ultra-Pro sleeve. A little information as to the field of specialty of W. D. Funkhouser, the late University of Kentucky professor, can be found in Rare Kentucky Books (Jillson, Lexington, 1939): His 1925 textbook, Wild Life in Kentucky, is described as "the only one of its kind on the Commonwealth," and was "muchly sought by bird and nature lovers. For years it has been used as a college textbook with the result that copies in mint or good condition are now practically impossible to obtain (183)." A scarce title, either in commerce or institutional holdings, with a June 2020 OCLC search returning University of Kentucky; Kentucky Historical Society; and Transylvania University only.

Some creasing on front wrap; foxing and soiling on both wrappers; staples rusty. Interior clean and unmarked. Withal, about GOOD and still serviceable. This [Lexington] edition scarce in commerce and institutional holdings, with a September 2019 OCLC search returning no copies in the United States (Switzerland and British Library only).

Publisher's tan wrappers with black title lettering and a portrait of the author within elaborate decorative black border, octavo, pp. 114. Additional use of the cover portrait as a frontis. Alas, a reading or working copy only, with considerable wear, short tears at crown and foot of spine; nicks; smudge on page 6. Withal, sound and still serviceable. An uncommon title now protected against further wear in a clear Ultra-Pro display sleeve. Author (1868-1942) wrote a Tang of the South column for The Lexington Herald. Shelf rubs at spine ends and board edges and tips. Lower board tips bumped, as well. GOOD and sound, withal. Dust jacket FAIR-only with chips, short tears, general wear and rubbing around perimeter. Jacket now in removable protective Brodart. "The most Thoreauvian of Jesse's books," according to editor Ed Kuhn (see Richardson, "Jessie: The Biography of an American Writer," New York, 1984, page 363).
