Nineteenth-century woman-owned "business" in Maine. Removed from a bound volume, octavo, pp. 2, [2]. "AN ACT granting Susan S. B. Spring the right to maintain a dam at its present height at or near the lower narrows, so called, at West Harpswell, in the town of Harpswell, for the purpose of retaining so much of the tide water as is necessary for the culture of fish." Two stab holes from binding near spine. A short tear throughout at mid fore-edge with no loss. Otherwise, just light wear and toning. Withal, about GOOD and ensconced now in a clear protective display sleeve with white cardstock backing board.

Reprinted in facsimile from the original in stiff red wrappers with plastic comb binding, 16mo (6 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches), pp. [12], 64. With a new Preface by the Publisher. Very Good with just light shelf wear. See MacLean, Gene Stratton-Porter: A Book Collector's Guide (1995), item 9(d) for limitation statement: "500 copies printed."

Publisher's dark green cloth, octavo, pp. 566. The statistics pages are a bit of a dry read, but there is plentiful good biographical and genealogical information regarding Legislators. Editor Owen (1869-1958) was Director of the state of Alabama's Department of Archives and History, as well as the aunt of actress Tallulah Bankhead. She was inducted into the Alabama Women's Hall of Fame in 1975. Owen has signed the book with her compliments, perhaps in haste, as the inscription is upside down and on the rear free endpaper. Board tips and spine ends of the book are shelf worn. Title lettering has faded away with the decades. Random spots on the binding and on the page edges. Small white sticker on free front endpaper. Internally clean and unmarked.

Publisher's stapled orange wrappers, octavo, pp. 23. A few small illustrations. A gathering of articles from several publications, including Militant; Young Socialist; and International Socialist Review. Light shelf and consultation wear. Wrapper spine faded by sun. Safely stowed now in a clear display sleeve with white card-stock backing board. Uncommon.

Eighth edition, octavo, pp. 32. Black & white illustrations, a few are on the graphic side. Very good in the publisher's stapled orange wraps.

Hardcover with map of Africa on upper board, octavo, pp. xiv, 343. Dust jacket was not issued with this title.

Wraps, octavo, unpaginated. Just light wear, as with age & careful handling, but very good in the publisher's stapled illustrated wrappers.

Publisher's original stapled wrappers, 32mo (approximately 5 inches in height by 6 inches in width), pp. 39. Black and white illustrations. FAIR-only, with nicks, small holes, and shelf discoloration on the wrappers. Clean and unmarked internally. A fragile affair overall, now ensconced in a clear protective display sleeve with white card-stock backing board. A scarce item, both in trade or institutional holdings, with a 2024 OCLC search returning no results.

Third printing, in the publisher's beige cloth with silver spine lettering and silver upper board crest, octavo, pp. 275 plus colophon. Dust jacket GOOD with a shelf rub at bottom of rear panel near spine (see image for our best attempt at a close-up). Jacket now protected in a sheet of removable mylar.

SIGNED by the author in a neat hand on title page. First edition, octavo, pp. xiii, 202 plus index. Black and white illustrations. Appendix: Mountain Trips of Betsy Strong Cowles Partridge, 1933-1970. Very Good in Very Good illustrated dust jacket.

Later printing, in the publisher's green cloth with black lettering, 12mo, pp. 345 + pp. [2] ads. This unique copy from the collection of renowned American sculptor and writer Lenore Thomas Straus (1909-1988), with her tasteful bookplate affixed to the front paste-down (see our image). Illustrated with 12 black and white plates, as called for, and with drawings by Noel Rooke. Glossary. An entry in Pitman's Artistic Crafts Series of Technical Books. Mild shelf wear. Dust jacket with chips, short tears, mild erosion of paper at spine ends. Jacket now protected against further wear by a sheet of removable Brodart.

Hardcover, first printing, small octavo, pp. ix, 246. Illustrations. Light shelf wear, and very light foxing on top edge and fore-edge, else Very Good in the publisher's blue cloth over boards with spine lettering gilt. Illustrated dust jacket light wear but Very Good.
