Marlborough: Lucy and Co., 1873. Printed, single sided broadsheet, approximately 340mm x 430mm in size. Lightly browned, old creases from folds, small nicks to sides at central crease and a small tear to centre just catching text but with no loss of sense. Statement of accounts for a Marlborough friendly society, where members paid in as an insurance against sickness or death, the receipts and expenditures are listed here, including the surgeon's salary, with a list of the elected officials. Bury St. Edmunds and London: Gedge and Barker [Printers] for Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, and Brown, 1811. [3], iv-xvi, [1], 2-296pp. Original boards, with original paper label to spine. Head of spine defective, lacking about an inch, foot of spine slightly chipped, spine browned, edges and corners bumped and worn. Internally some light foxing, but generally fairly bright, largely unopened at head. Name and address of a previous owner to ffep. 6p of adverts bound in at the front (from 1818). Alnwick: W. Davison, 1809. Single sided printed handbill, approximately 190mm x 150mm in size. Browned, slightly chipped to left hand side with small amounts of loss, with ink number and print run to head and ink initial to the left of the imprint. Dated February 18, 1809, noting that the time for the hiring of 'hinds' has been put back a month so "it is requested, therefore, that the Gentlemen and Farmers in this Neighbourhood will defer Hiring such Servants accordingly". A 'hind', (the term is probably from Scotland though clearly also used, as here, in Northern England), was "applied to a married skilled farm worker who occupies a cottage on the farm and is granted certain perquisites in addition to wages" (Dictionary of the Scots Language). Nottingham: T. & W. Plant; Thomas Stevenson, 1854. Collection of seven provincially printed broadsides relating to the Crimean war, all printed in 1854 or 1855, the smallest measuring approximately 170mm x 370mm in size and the rest approximately 245mm x 370mm. All lightly browned, some light foxing and light creasing, a few small nicks and tears, one 'News From Sebastopol!' with small chip to left hand margin and small hole to centre catching a few letters but with no loss of sense, 'Statistics and Statements' with loss to bottom right hand corner, but no loss of text, 'Bombardment of Sebastopol' is laid on to linen. 'Bombardment of Sebastopol' was printed by T. & W. Plant in Clare Street, Nottingham, possibly descendants of James Plant (see BBTI); the remainder were printed by Thomas Stevenson in Wheeler-Gate, probably the same printer as the Thomas Stevenson & Co. located in Middle Pavement Nottingham in 1847 (see BBTI). Great Yarmouth: J. Cooper [Printer], 1874. Single sided printed broadside, approximately 290mm x 445mm in size. Damp stained to top edge with a couple of smaller and lighter patches towards middle, with a couple of small nicks and tears and a small repair to reverse at head, lightly browned, otherwise fairly bright. Dated the 7th of November 1874, the notice warns that a George Pillar has been found guilty, and fined, for having kept pigs in his yard and premises, "so as to be a common nuisance". Not in COPAC. Newcastle: D. Bass Single sided printed broadside, approximately 225mm x 335mm in size, n.d. c.1803? Trimmed to edges, otherwise fairly bright and clean. Printed by D.[avid] Bass, Foot of Pilgrim Street, Newcastle, where he was based from 1801-1811. Bass printed chapbooks and other ephemera, including pornography and became bankrupt in 1811 (See Hunt, 'The Book Trade in Northumberland and Durham to 1860', pages 8-9). Probably printed in response to the threat of invasion by Bonaparte ("the Gallic despot"). Not in COPAC. First Edition. Unbound. Good. Folio. Broadside.

Bury [St. Edmunds]: J. Rackham, 1814. Single sided printed broadside, approximately 195mm x 300mm in size. Slightly trimmed, lightly browned, small amount of loss to left hand side, probably from once being removed from an album, lightly creased, a couple of small tears to margins, with a couple of pencilled corrections/additions to the text. Festival dinner held in Bury St. Edmunds, one of many held around the country, to celebrate the peace and defeat of Bonaparte (slightly prematurely). It ended with an effigy of Napoleon being burned. Suffolk Record Office have a different broadside for the same event, promising other events, including donkey races, male (winner gets a pair of shoes) and female (winner gets a copper kettle) races, and a pig hunt (winner keeps the pig!). Barnsley: John Elliott, 1847. 16pp, folding frontispiece, disbound. Ex-library copy with number to reverse of title and catalogue note to reverse of folding frontispiece, lightly browned, slightly chipped, folding frontispiece coming slightly detached from pamphlet at head but holding well, worn to spine where removed from a volume of pamphlets, otherwise fairly clean. The sermon comprises the first twelve pages, with a 'Brief Narrative of Events' of three pages, the final page lists the people killed in the disaster, including several children, the youngest being ten years old. The folding frontispiece is an image of the funeral procession taken from the Illustrated London News. Elliott appears at May-Day Green in the BBTI as a printer, bookseller, stationer, librarian/owner of circulating library, fl. 1840-1857. Uncommon, BL only in COPAC. First Edition. Disbound. Nottingham: Bromar Press Eight issues, numbers one to eight (of ten?), between 16 and 24 pages in each issue, n.d. the first issue is 1983, the rest 1984. Original paper covers. Each with a small hole punched to top left hand corner, occasionally catching the odd letter or image but with no loss of sense. Uncommon, one issue (first issue) at Nottingham University in Library Hub, the Sparrows Nest (an anarchist library in Nottingham) holds issues 1-10 (lacking number 3) and a couple of free supplements. Newcastle: T. Fordyce, 1865. Single sided printed broadside, approximately 225mm x 285mm in size. Lightly browned and creased, several small tears to left hand side, a few spots of light foxing. The printer was T.[homas] Fordyce, the brother of William (see Hunt, The Book Trade in Northumberland and Durham to 1860, page 36). The broadside relates to a statue of Charles II, which had been recently moved, which had "so greatly irritated some inveterate enemy to the Stuart race, and fiery zealot of the House of Brunswick, that on the 18th, the following most ill-natured pasquinade was found posted upon a door immediately under the statue". The said pasquinade is here reprinted, with a contemporary reply by Philanthropos. Not found in JISC. First Edition. Unbound. Good. 4to. Broadside.
