One large silver gelatin photograph sized 16 x 20 in. mounted on black board sized 22 x 26 in., with printed title label mounted below the photograph, preserved in original Arts & Crafts darkly stained wooden frame sized 27.5 x 31.5 in. (some chipping, rubbing, scuffing & edgewear to frame), still an excellent image with strong contrast. This fantastic large photograph probably hung in one of the Southern Pacific Railway stations as a promotional photo for the company’s attempt to change the “wild west” perception of California and Nevada, and instead show the natural beauty and grandeur of the West. The vineyards near Stockton, California are from the 19th century until today one of the most productive wine regions in the country and their prize-winning wines contribute to the international reputation of fine quality California Wines.
