First edition of this beautifully printed work on Jazz Age decorative cakes. There are cakes for New Years, birth announcements, Easter, birthday cakes, wedding cakes, cakes with macaroons, Marzipan decorated cakes, caramel sugar baskets, post card cakes (very beautiful), and many others. The recipes and ads at the end offer the instructions and equipment to produce these beautiful confections.

First edition of this finely printed Victorian chromolithograph calendar for the famed Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States during the Gilded Age. Incorporated in 1859, the Equitable Life Assurance society was known for decades as one of the largest life insurance companies in the country, and maintained a vast sales force. These independent agents actively cultivated clients, and advertised heavily through calendars, greeting cards, brochures, and other printed mediums.

The All-Year Club of Southern California was largely the brainchild of Harry Chandler, publisher of the Los Angeles times who was concerned that too many potential buyers of real estate in the San Fernando Valley were staying away 6 months of the year, launched this publicity campaign idealizing the weather. One large silver gelatin photograph sized 16 x 20 in. mounted on black board sized 22 x 26 in., with printed title label mounted below the photograph, preserved in original Arts & Crafts darkly stained wooden frame sized 27.5 x 31.5 in. (some chipping, rubbing, scuffing & edgewear to frame), still an excellent image with strong contrast. This fantastic large photograph probably hung in one of the Southern Pacific Railway stations as a promotional photo for the company’s attempt to change the “wild west” perception of California and Nevada, and instead show the natural beauty and grandeur of the West.
