LELOIR, Maurice. 1st Edition. 30 x 37 cm dark green cloth with gilt and colour illustrations and titles to the front, gilt stamped titles to the spine and publisher's device in black to the rear. All edges gilt, pale blue-grey endpapers, iv, 76(2)pp with 36 chromolithographic illustrations 4 of which are double pages. There is a little light dust staining to the boards with a few white marks (paint) at the top of the rear board. The binding is firm but there is a 3cm split in the cloth on the front joint and a couple of 5mm holes in the cloth at the foot of the spine and a 2mm hole at the head. There is a little rubbing to the corners edges and spine tips together with some bruising to all four corners. A mounted original pen, ink and watercolour drawing the mount measuring 51.4 x 40.7 cm and the illustration 36.5 x 24.2 cm with the page numbers and the words' NO TENT - distant caravans' written in the top margin. VG+ condition. This is a draft of an illustration for pages 14 and 15 in the book Three Jolly Clowns published by Collins in 1952. There is some yellowing to top margin of the illustration from the tape that attaches the illustration to the mount and a very little spotting to the edges of the mount itself but the image is clear and bright. An unpublished hand written story in three drafts, two on A4 lined paper [8] and [10] pp and one on [8]pp foolscap, each set tied with red wool, concerning the adventures of 3 Pekingese dogs accompanied by 18 original pen, ink and watercolour illustrations 26.7 x 16.5 cm in mounts measuring 42 x33 cm. Cam [1913-1984] wrote her first book Barbara Lamb in 1943 whilst in the Land Army and John Lane commissioned her to write six more; The Buttercup Fairy [1945], Margaret Fieldmouse [1946], Timothy Tabbycat [1947], Belinda Bear [1948], Bill Frog [1950], Bill Frog to the Rescue [1952]. Collins Then published 'Three Jolly Fishermen [1952], Three Jolly Clowns[1952] and Three Jolly Mountaineers. The story has various corrections in the author's hand, whilst a couple of the pages are dog eared and the wool has pulled through the holes punched on some pages. The spine has five raised bands with a title label in one compartment and gilt stamped decoration in the other five. All edges gilt, marbled endpapers, [x] 192[2]pp with black and white illustrations by John Tenniel throughout. The half leather binding is rubbed at the corners, spine tips and edges with some surface abrasion but the binding is firm. Internally without name or inscription but with the bookplate of Thomas Weld-Blundell on the front free endpaper and just a touch of spotting and light marking to the text pages. There a few spots to the endpapers and a little cockling to the last few pages. Increasingly difficult to find, a very nice copy of this early printing. VG. 1st UK Edition. 19.3 x 25 cm brown cloth with gilt stamped titles to the front and spine and blind stamped publisher's device to the rear, viii 298(2)pp. A little light splash marking and rubbing to the boards with a hint of creasing to the spine and some rubbing and pushing to the corners. There is a little fraying to the head of the spine and a couple of small holes in the cloth at the foot. The front free endpaper has a small inscription in initials dated 1927 and there is a small bookseller's sticker on the rear pastedown. The second free endpaper is darkened through acid migration, otherwise the pages are generally clean with occasional small marks. A presentable copy. Limited Edition, one of 350, this being No. 175 of 200 copies printed on 'papier v�lin du Marais' with illustrations by Lionel P�raux and introduction by Voltaire. Full blue morocco with raised bands and gilt titles to the spine, gold line border to the edge of the boards and decorative dentelles, binding signed by Riviere and sons. Top edge gilt, other edges uncut, marbled endpapers, xxxx,264pp., tissue-guarded black and white illustrations by Louis P�raux. The book is inscribed by the publisher to Lionel Isaacs, 'un libraire ami des livres' and has it's original colour wraps bound in. The book is very good plus with just a hint of a ding to the top edge of the front board that can be felt rather than seen. Internally there is a bookplate on the front pastedown and just a little spotting to the blanks preceding the front bound in front wrap and the blanks following the bound in rear wrap.
