The 529 page Book is in very good condition. The cover is blue with gold lettering, On the title page it is stamped PRESINTATION COPY in the lower right hand corner, see photo. The TGSLT is one of seven historic trails crossing the great plains. It starts in Kansas City and ends Salt lake City. A pull out map is found on page 389. The trail is primarily known for it's use by the Mormons but, others including including Freemont and Stansbury used it.

One of 600 copies of the 1st California edition. 163 pages with several illustrations, some in color, with a folding pull out map. Among other information on the army life of General Cooke, it's an interesting account of his march leading the Mormon Battalion from Santa Fe, New Mexico to San Diego, California.
