Description:
New York: Robert M. McBride, 1927. First Impression of the Illustrated Edition printed October, 1927, ten years after the first edition of September 1917. Large 8vo. bound in gold stamped black cloth. Pictorial endpapers. Top edge stained red. 243 pp. Dust jacket is also black, though stamped in red. This book is in fine condition. Apparently it has never been read because one would need a paper knife to split the bottoms of the uncut pages. There is a small dent in the middle of the back cover but other than that this book is near perfect./Jacket is sturdy and attractive. There is a 2" closed split along the front joint, a narrow triangular piece missing along the top edge of the back panel, a 3/4" tear in the top edge of back panel and edges are a little ruffled. Overall it is very good.. With 12 illustrations by Frank C. Papé.

Overall condition is Good only./Dust jacket shows a little soil and one closed tear. Overall very good.. Erskine Caldwell recently visited a number of America's hard-hit sections, among them the South, with its vicious systems of share-cropping and tenant-farming that smack of feudal times; the Drought area, those long mid-Western expanses sterilized by fierce dust storms and a relentless sun that have deprived thousands of Americans of their homes and their livelihood; Detroit, the hotbed of labor conflict, where many workers are never sure of their jobs from one day to the next. Mr. Caldwell carefully surveyed the situation everywhere he went, talking to share-croppers, dispossessed whites and negroes, farm owners, factory workers. Doing most of the listening, he was able to get first hand impressions of an America that is changing rapidly under the stress of…

New Castle, Delaware: Oak Knoll Books, Edward Ripley-Duggan, Nicholas T. Smith, 1981. Originally published in 1938. This is the 1981 reprint. Blue cloth 8vo. 205 pp. including index followed by 7 pp. Errata, Conclusion and Addenda. Tight, clean, very good, almost fine but for three small stains on the bottom edge of the text block./Dust jacket is fine.. Illustrated with photographs. This bibliography documents the career of The Village Press with meticulous detail and insight. In a short memoir at the beginning of the book, Frederic W. Goudy gives an account of the vicissitudes of a printer's life that is certain to ring familiar with anyone who has experienced the "fun and fury" of a private press. The brief section from the diary of Will Ransom, co-founder of the press, gives some idea of the magnitude of the initial problems that were encountered. despite these difficulties, they were still able to produce books that were an able tribute to William Morris in many ways Goudy's chief inspiration in…

La Jolla: Hans-Curt Köstner, A Star and Elephant Book from the Green Tiger Press, 1982. First Edition. Square 4to. 11-3/16" x 11-2/16. Glossy pictorial boards. 193 pp. One small dent in the joint between spine and front cover. Otherwise a book in fine condition.. Charming illustrations grace each and every page, most in color.. The Carl Larsson Exhibitions at the Amos Anderson Museum in Helsinki in 1981/82 and the Brooklyn Museum in New York late in 1982 make it clear that perennial interest in this artist continues even in our day. . . . .What is the basis for this so constant interest in an artist who is hardly "modern"? At all events, what we may call the "generation gap" does not seem to have been a factor regarding this interest in the case of Larsson. The present work seeks an answer to this question in, I feel, a new form, in that it confronts the reader with his work, his life and also his feeling in a sequence which has hitherto not been attempted.
