Very Good. 8vo (322 pages; photographic frontispiece of the author; one large color fold-out map). This is a very good copy of the First English edition without dust jacket. The edges of the boards are worn; the covers are a bit scraped; the head and tail of the spine is rubbed; and the corners are bumped. The front hinge is a tad loose; the end papers are lightly foxed. A previous owner’s name is written in a light-colored ink on front free endpaper. The map has a one-inch tear at the top, where it is bound into the book. The English edition does not include illustrations printed in the American edition.

Very Good. large 8vo (84 pages; illustrated with black and white photographs; decorative initial capital letters in each chapter). This is a very good copy of the First Canadian edition without dust jacket as issued. PRESENTATION COPY inscribed on the flyleaf in ink by the regiment’s commander, Lt. Col. S. Maynard Rogers, and dated 8 July, to the 5th Massachusetts Volunteers. The book has been given a new spine; the hinges have been repaired. The corners of the cloth cover are slightly worn, and there is a faint damp-spot on front cover. Contents fine and include period advertisements from Ottawa-area businesses. The Forty-Third Regiment served in the Fenian Raids, the Northwest Rebellion and the Boer War.

Worcester, MA: Achille J. St. Onge, 1957. First Thus [1 of 1000 copies] . Leatherbound. Very Good. 3 1/4 x 2 1/8 inches (38 pages). “SERMON OF HIS EMINENCE FRANCIS CARDINAL SPELLMAN At the Pontifical Mass on the Occasion of the Observance of the Silver Jubilee of his Consecration, Yankee Stadium, September 7, 1957.” A very handsome miniature book produced by St. Onge, in a limited edition of 1,000 copies, bound in full Fuschia calf, blind-stamped, all edges gilt. The condition is virtually mint. ACHILLE J. ST. ONGE (1913–1978) was the greatest maker of miniature books in the 20th Century. Based in Worcester, Massachusetts, he began producing them as a hobby in 1935. By the time he ceased in 1977, St. Onge had created 48 miniature masterpieces on an eclectic variety of subjects. The books all remain much-prized by collectors.
