This fascinating book covers the period from 1907 to 1937 and focuses on the 55 coach builders who supplied bodies for the Rolls-Royce automobile. Each coach builder has an introductory essay follored by pages b&w photos, 3 per page, of examples of their work. All photos are captioned with year, body style, and often the person for whom the body was built and the present owner. This is book is considered to be the authority on this subject. First published in 1967, a revised edition was released in 1970--this copy has the revisions the author thought were important. The author, a Benzie Cuonty native and environmental engineer has explored in detail the 19th century plan to build a canal to Crystal Lake in Benzie County for steamboats on Lake Michigan and the environmental effects on the lake after a dam broke and 56 billion gallons of water rushed out of the lake, lowering the lake level by 17 feet. In the second part of the book he examines the background, family and life of Archibald Jones, the promoter of the idea.
