Cheated by the actor Edwin Forrest of his just gains from his dramas, receiving almost nothing for his novels, unable to support himself by literary journalism, he was forced to turn to teaching medicine and editing a newspaper for livelihood.".

Includes primarily the descendants of William Logsdon, born 1652 in Ireland and Honora O'Flynn, who lived in Baltimore, Maryland. Some of their descendants are traced to the 1950's in Kentucky. Also brief mention of Cader K. Edwards, (1705-1810), born in Wales and wife Mary Gordon, born in Scotland. Also Harvey Locke and Elvira Edwards, whose daughter married Jordan Logsdon. Also a mention of Antone Pachenco Bento, born 1885 in Portugal and wife Marie Antonia Dias, (1883-1955), who lived in Hawaii. Finally just a note about George Dahmer, (1880-1966), born in Russia, d. in Colorado and wife Mary Elizabeth Gross and their children, one of whom, Samuel, apparently was married to the compiler of this paper. .

After moving to Kentucky and practicing law, he was elected to the House of Representatives. He served in the War of 1812, and was quite agitated when Mr. Burges of Rhode Island intimated that Kentucky was not paying its fair share of tariffs, and called the men from Kentucky "Hog and Hominy boys" and, further, insinuated that the Kentuckians had acquitted themselves poorly at the Battle of New Orleans. Being a native Kentuckian I believe that Mr. Burges, in a dispute over tariffs, simply resorted to making an ad hominem attack, or in this case an ad "hominy" attack. His remarks are colorful, but his statement about the Kentuckians' en masse, having acquitted themselves poorly seems to be in question. Woodrow Wilson, (1856-1924), born in Virginia, was the 28th president of the United States, serving during the years 1913-1921..

NY: Scribner's Sons Book. Fair. Hardcover. 1909, 12mo, 255pp, cloth and boards. The title is written in ink on the front cover, the spine label, much of which is missing, is discolored, extremities worn, else G. This volume was previously owned by Louisville poet, Madison Cawein, with his signature on the first endpaper, and his signature and the date (1909) on the rear pastedown. The author, (1869-1968), was a native of Grayson County, Kentucky. She taught in various institutions, including Radcliffe. She used the pseudonym Fielding Burke for several of her novels. SEMIRAMIS AND OTHER PLAYS, her first book of dramas, included the title play based on the life of the famous Persian queen; CARLOTTA, a drama of Mexico in the days of Maximilian; and THE POET, a dramatization of the life of Edgar Allan Poe..

The family moved to Arkansas when she was very young. She graduated from the University of Nashville and taught for a few years in Texas and Boston. She returned to her native state and became one of Kentucky's best poetic dramatists. Ultimately, she settled in North Carolina and achieved her greatest success writing proletarian fiction.
