A little light foxing to prelims otherwsie a Fine copy, with printed Prize Plate for Grammar to front paste-down, completed and dated in 1903. Inspirational brief biographies of explorers, missionaries, naturalists and philosophers, and perhaps less militaristic than might be expected from the title.Subjects include the Earl of Shaftesbury, John Ruskin, Dr Arnold of Rugby and artist Harrison Weir.

A prolific writer of golf and a very capable player in his own right Darwin was Captain of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews and was President of the Golf Club Managers' Association. This collection is of 24 papers printed in Darwin's regular golf columns in The Times over the previous few years and is one of his earliest books. Scarce.
