Jacket has several large chips on front and a hole along front of spine. Chipping at top and bottom of spine and corners. Spine is sunned and there is one long scratch on front. Cracking along fore-edges and rubbing and creasing around all edges.

Reading crease to spine, but binding remains quite strong on the whole. Mild shelf wear around the edges and scuffing to covers. Tanning pages that are clean and unmarked.

Boards have light edge wear and softened spine ends. Dust jacket is has small chips, rips and creasing around all edges. Dampstain at front bottom corner.

Hinges are secure.

Jacket protected in mylar and shows moderate scuffing and chipping at spine ends. Price clipped. Also moderate soiling to boards under jacket.

Henry Frowde, 1911. Hardcover. Good/None. Pages are clean, bright and unmarked, aside from previous owner's inscription in blue ink on front endpaper and foxing to pastedowns and endpapers. Page 1 is torn at upper right corner. Boards are soiled, dampstained and heavily edgeworn. Corners are bumped and worn, and spine ends are chipped, revealing signatures beneath. Spine is browned and spine edges are chipped and torn. Spine is starting throughout, but hinges are secure.

Second state dust jacket lacking 5/57 at bottom of front flap. The second book in the Snopes trilogy by the famed Nobel laureate. Previous owner's name and stamp to bottom page edge and fly leaf. Else all other pages are clean and unmarked. Jacket protected in mylar and is bright & free of any tears. Small amount of scuffing to spine ends and a tiny chip missing along top edge of back jacket. Publisher's green topstain has an area of soiling that affects the last 1/5 of pages, back inner jacket flap and board. Else minor shelf wear.

Wrappers are clean, colorful, and nicely intact aside from dog-ear creasing and a small open tear at the top corner of the front cover and scuffing along all fore-edges. The binding is firm, spine is square, and there is a bright turquoise fore-edge stain. The pages are bright and unmarked aside from slight dog-ear creasing at the same top corner of the first 3 pages, and water marks on the bottom fore-edge of page 256-back cover.

Minor rubbing and shelf wear to jacket, but free of any large rips or tears. Some scuffing/bumping to spine ends and a small damp stain to spine tail (no interior pages affected). Else a sharp copy.

The Modern Library, 1950. Hardcover. Good/Acceptable. ML number 88. Jacket is intact but has multiple open and closed tears on the spine and both covers, in addition, the front flap publisher's price has been scribbled out in black marker. The spine is square, binding is firm, and the pages are bright and crisp with a previous price-point in crayon on top corner of the front free endpaper in addition to underlining and annotations in pen throughout the entire text.
