Description:
This book is new, never read, no wear to covers, no markings on inner pages, spine intact no creases.

After almost 40 years of active diving, I have followed many an underwater treasure trail. In 1982, for example I even visited one of the sites covered by this book and, armed with a brand new underwater metal detector set off with great hopes. Just as soon as I hit the seabed that piece of equipment started sounding as though I was sitting on top of a veritable hoard of valuable metal. Unfortunately, it was responding to the iron content of the rock itself and we all came home empty-handed. Elsewhere, I have found cannon and cannon balls in large quantities – but never anything of value. That, however, has never stopped me from reading of the exploits of those who have been successful and, as such works go, this is one of the better books on the subject. Lavishly illustrated from beginning to end, this work remains as relevant today as it did when first published in 1993. The various chapters on;… Read More

Description:
This book is in excellent condition, no wear to covers, no markings inner pages. Spine intact, no creases. "Brilliantly written in language eerily reminiscent of sixteenth-century England and filled with the dazzling color and drama of Tudor England, Firedrake's Eye concerns a meticulously constructed plot to kill Queen Elizabeth I. Tom O'Bedlam, the mad son of prominent Catholic family, stumbles upon evidence that his hated brother has returned to England to spearhead a scheme to assassinate the Queen.Patricia Finney transports the reader back in time to the dirty, dangerous underbelly of 1583 London. Combining accurate and detailed historical research with story-telling of an unusually high caliber, Firedrake's Eye brilliantly evokes that danger and treachery of Tudor politics." Good Reads "Patricia Finney's career started with a bang when her first novel A SHADOW OF GULLS was published before she went up to Oxford aged 18 to study History, back in the mists of time, when dinosaurs roamed.Having… Read More

Description:
This book is in very good condition, no wear to covers, no markings inner pages. Spine intact, some creases. "Her power was rivaled only by her beauty. Her face has become one of the most recognizable images in the world. She was an independent woman and thinker centuries before her time. But who was Egypt's Queen Nefertiti? After years of intense research, Dr. Joann Fletcher has answered the questions countless researchers before her could not. While studying Egyptian royal wigs, she read a brief mention of an unidentified and mummified body, discovered long ago and believed to belong to an Egyptian of little importance. This body happened to have a wig, which Dr. Fletcher knew was a clear sign of power. After examining the hairpiece and the woman to which it belonged, to the astonishment of her colleagues she identified this body as the missing remains of Queen Nefertiti. The search for Nefertiti had ended. She had been found. But the questions were just beginning. Nefertiti first rose to prominence… Read More

This book has been read, in good condition. Some wear and creases to covers. No markings inner pages, spine intact, some creases. "World Without End takes place in the same town of Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building the exquisite Gothic cathedral that was at the heart of The Pillars of the Earth. The cathedral and the priory are again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge, but this sequel stands on its own. This time the men and women of an extraordinary cast of characters find themselves at a crossroads of new ideas—about medicine, commerce, architecture, and justice. In a world where proponents of the old ways fiercely battle those with progressive minds, the intrigue and tension quickly reach a boiling point against the devastating backdrop of the greatest natural disaster ever to strike the human race—the Black Death." "Reading catalogues is not usually my thing, but I made an exception for this one because it has a long and interesting introduction about the state of Chinese archaeology back over 45 years ago. Published in 1973, it tells how grave robbers and wildcat "explorers" used to rip off China's ancient treasures and sell them to collectors, thus ensuring that nobody would know where they came from and what surrounded them (called "provenance" in the trade it seems). After the Revolution in 1949-50, all the chaos came to a stop and Chinese scholars began to publish work on their findings. The things they found were carefully put in museums. Contrary to public belief, the museums were not destroyed during the Cultural Revolution of 1966-75 and some archaeologists even kept working. There are 121 black and white plates in the catalogue section, each… Read More
