The covers have slight damage to hinge and are a little wobbly, small stains and marks to front and back, spine cloth ends a little worn. Tanned free end papers; tanned cut edges. The text block is also in good plus condition, tightly bound, square, not tanned or foxed, but a few pages have small marks. With many technical illustrations and b/w photos (including frontispiece plate). No inscriptions etc.

In good brown leather bevel-edged and decorated leather, with gilt titles to front with image of globe with 'Terra Cognita'; gilt titles to spine. The boards have been cleaned by "The Clevedon Community Bookshop Co-operative Bindery Team"; they have also reinforced the spine cover and secured the spine over. The boards are very tight, flat and quite clean; corners bumped and frayed. The purple, white and black patterned end papers have been replaced by The Bindery Team. Age-toned cut edges. The text block is largely made up of single sided coloured maps. Most of the pages are very lightly tanned around the edges; the prelims and end pages are more tanned.
