Rabbi Henry Iliowizi (1850-1911) was born in Russia, educated in Germany, and for many years is service as an educational administrator for the Anglo-Jewish Association and Alliance Isrealite Universelle in North Africa.

Lovely and scarce little devotional book. Only 1 other book with this title and New Orleans imprint appears on OCLC/Worldcat, though pagination is different and later publication date.

A beautiful pocket edition of the Book of Common Prayer. Clasps and bosses are engraved with a delicate floral pattern.

In 1834 Washington Irving (1783-1859) was commissioned by fur magnate John Jacob Astor (1763-1848) to write a book promoting the Pacific Northwest, where Astor's Pacific Fur Company enterprise was centered. Irving took on the job and using the accounts and reports of Thomas McKenney, Lewis & Clark, other sources, as well as reseach carried out by Irving's nephew Pierre Munro Irving produced his "Astoria" in 1836.
