Description:
New York, May, 1883. Small folio, 8vo, leaves unopened. Single issue of Zion's Day Star, founded in 1881 by A.D. Jones, an employee of Charles Taze Russell in the 1870s. The magazine was founded as a supplement to Watch Tower, but Jones' views changed by the end of 1882. By the close of 1881, A.D. Jones, still in harmony with Russell, set out on his own to publish Zion's Day Star, a supplementary magazine to Zion's Watch Tower. Tony Wills writes in "A People for His Name: A History of Jehovah's Witnesses and and Evaluation," that "By the close of 1882 Jones, who had formerly rejected Paton's views for publication, started to espouse them..Thus Russell's fourth and last original coworker fell out with him..." M. James Penton adds in "Apocalypse Delayed: The Story of Jehovah's Witnesses" that "Russell's only principal early associate to continue in fellowship with him was A.D. Jones. But even that relationship did not last." A very good copy with folding creases and minor toning.
