The book is well preserved with a little rub to the top corner of the front cover and a little fading to the spine. It is now protected in a clear, rigid removable cover (not shown in our images). It won the 1974 Cholmondley Award and includes the 1st appearance in book form of her most famous poem 'Warning', which begins 'When I am an old woman I shall wear purple / With a red hat which doesn't go... ' which was voted Britain's favourite post war poem in a BBC poll and is the inspiration behind The Red Hat Society. A lovely association copy. VG. 1st Edition. 14.7 x 22.1 cm blue card wraps with red titles to the front, 39 (1)pp. Signed and inscribed by the author to friend and fellow poet Terence Hards. A very good copy with some toning to the edges of the front and back cover and on the spine. Internally, there is a correction to the title of the first poem that seems to have been made by the author as it is in the same pen as her signature. There are also one or two spots and a crease to one page corner, the result of a manufacturing error in the cutting of that page. All in all an excellent association copy.
