Description:
London: Thomas Kelly. Very Good. 1825 &1829. Leather. Two volumes. Containing 13 folding maps, 75 additional plates and maps and a frontispiece to each volume. Despite the bold claims of the title, the first volume deals in quite summary fashion with Asia, Africa and America and the entire second volume is devoted to Europe, with excessive focus upon France and recent events involving a Mr Bonaparte, scant attention is paid to the polar regions, although we do get a section on Astronomy at the start in order to give us a sense of our place in the wider cosmos. The books are firmly bound in contemporary calf with marbled endpapers and page ends, re-backed at some point preserving most of the spines and the original endpapers and pastedowns, the boards are somewhat bumped, rubbed and stained. The text blocks are toned, slightly foxed and with some staining. ; Maps & illustrations .
