'The U.S. [New Church] church was organised in 1817 with the founding of the General Convention of the New Church (sometimes shortened to the Convention), now also known as the Swedenborgian Church of North America. The movement in the United States strengthened until the late 19th century, and there was a New-Church Theology School in Cambridge. Controversies about doctrine and the authority of Swedenborg's writings caused a faction to split off and form the Academy of the New Church. Wood engraved title vignette to each volume. Contemporary half calf gilt and marbled boards, title label to v.I worn with a little loss, the spine to v.VI splitting at the head on each side, occasional foxing, unidentified engraved heraldic book-plate in each volume, an attractive set. *Without the final two volumes, dealing with Optics and Photometry. Rarely found as a complete set, even six volumes together is unusual. Each volume is complete in itself.

. Reprints, apart form a couple of dusty margins, in very good condition. *KATZ (1911-2003), shared the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1970, with von Euler and Axelrod, for his work on chemical neurotransmission.

Original wrappers detached and brittle with some loss at the edges, contents in very good condition. *GEORGE WILLIAM CLARKSON KAYE (1880-1941), educated at the Royal College of Science and the Cavendish Laboratory, and personal assistant to Sir J. J. Thomson. He was awarded an OBE for services during WWI, subsequently took a position in the War Office and in 1922 was appointed Superintendent of the Physics Dept. at the National Physical Laboratory. He was one of the foremost members of the Protection Committee, setting standards for rooms and equipment and devising methods of protection for X-ray workers.

Keith, in his Autobiography, describes at some length his researches into the topic of respiration. In 1901 he had started a series of approaches to understanding the mechanism of the diaphragm, leading to an interest in 'Glénard's Disease', published in 1902 in the London Hospital Gazette, and later as the Hunterian Lectures of 1903, published in the Lancet. In that year also, he had presented a paper to the Anatomical Society under the title - 'A Contribution to the Mechanism of Human Respiration'. See chapters 13 and 14 of his Autobiography.
