New York : A. H. Rosenberg, 1898. Hardcover. First Edition. Cloth, 4to. 81, 39 pages. In Hebrew and English. Singerman 5198; Deinard, Koheleth America101 and 693. The author, who received impressive rabbinic ordinations from the greatest Lithuanian Rabbis and held posts as Dayan and Rosh Yeshiva in Minsk, apparently could only find employment as a Mohel upon emigrating to the United States. His sermons are quaint and interesting. For an address for delivery at a wedding ceremony he states, "It is the duty of a woman to be her husband's friend and adviser, his companion and co-sufferer in all that concerns both of them" (Part I, p. 69) . The book contains testimonials to his skill as a Mohel from four prominent physicians on the Lower East Side, plus an interesting report of the circumcision of a 22-year old man "who rose at once and drank to the health of the Jewish nation" (Part 1, p. 10) . SUBJECT(S) : Rabbis - handbooks, manuals, etc. OCLC lists 10 copies worldwide. Covers are worn. Hinges have…

New York : Jewish Theological Seminary of America, 1938. Hardcover. 8vo. Xvi, 367 pages. First edition. SUBJECT (S) : Thought and thinking - Judaism. CONTENTS: Introductory; Torah; Torah as law and ethics; On the organic complex. "Kadushin was born in Minsk, Russia, and immigrated with his family to Seattle, Washington in 1897. He earned his B. A. At New York University. He was ordained by the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in 1920, where he also received his D. H. L. In 1932... Kadushin's scholarly interest was the explication of talmudic thought. Basing his observations on the latest rabbinic texts and historical investigations, Kadushin explained the unique character of the rabbinic mind. Rather than being random and disorganized, Kadushin believed that the rabbis' thought-world was made up primarily of value concepts, which were expressed in such noun forms as berakhah ("blessing") , zedakah ("charity) , and derekh erez ("proper behavior, " "ethics") . Kadushin believed that four rabbinic…
