Description:
London: Printed and Sold by A. Bettesworth [et al.], 1723. 2 vols., 8vo, pp. [viii], xxiv, 58, [2], xviii, 18, [2], 8, [4], 119, [1]; [iv], 400, [10] + frontispiece (vol. 1) and engraved title-page (vol. 2). Contemporary calf, boards bordered with double gilt rules, spines divided by raised bands between gilt rules, red morocco labels, third compartments numbered direct in gilt, edges sprinkled red. Somewhat scratched, spines creased, small area of loss to foot of spine of vol. 1. A reissue of Edmund Curll’s 1713 edition, with cancel title-pages, done in a slightly haphazard manner. The works in volume 1 have been re-ordered to match the listing on the new title-page, resulting in an inaccurate contents page and advertisement leaf for Curll’s publications halfway through the book, and the engraved title-page for volume 2 retains Curll’s imprint and the date of 1713, a date shared by the title-pages of the individual works across both volumes.
