Description:
The classic work in hardcover, here bound in deep black cloth with red text in near-fine condition -- 'near' because it's difficult to tell whether a stamped red star on the bottom edge is a remainder mark or just some kind of exuberant Marxist thing. Price is intact. Pages are bright, clean, and unmarked, deckled on right and bottom edges.
Dust jacket, in bold '70s colors and skinny '70s neo-Futura lettering, has only a couple of edge dings, a little chip on the top rear, looks great.

Description:
Stated 1st edition, 1st printing, straight and nice-looking, expressly not an ex-library copy or a book club ringer, etc.
Mustard-colored binding is tight and straight with some fading near bottom edge; pages are crisp and sharp, cream colored, with a small chip on the bottom edge of one endpaper -- otherwise as if unread.
Jacket is very attractive with vivid colors; some shelf wear on top edge. Basically a great copy of a great short McPhee book -- like a snack between volumes of Annals of the Former World.

Description:
This is the familiar large Wyeth book from the late '60s, once as abundant as it was important, but now approaching endangered status due to years of debinding at the hands of print sellers.
It's an oblong elephant folio. Binding is straight and solid, quarterbound in cloth with beige boards and chocolate brown spine with silver lettering. Beige cloth looks clean from a couple of feet away, up close shows some signs of age and handling including edge foxing. Pages are complete, in all cases straight and white, crisp and square-cornered, and unmarked.
The DJ is a kind of paper that has often doomed heavy, very large-format books like this one to cosmetic wear from normal handling in the bookstore. The DJ here has clearly been around the block a couple of times since initial purchase. Short tears on the bottom edge have been closed from behind with archival tape to stabilize things, and also to decent cosmetic effect. The main jacket issue is an overall toning combined with stipples of foxing. It… Read More

Description:
This is Murray's well-known survey of Egyptian culture and civilization in an early edition loaded with illustrations including many full-page photos. It's a nice, solid hardcover edition of a book that's usually found in skinny diminished form. Full color frontis. Binding is a solid, tight and square large octavo/small quarto with no major flaws or markings aside from owner's name in pencil on ffep. Inserted separately is that former owner's Phi Delta Phi book mark, which seems to have a list of motels on it that I feel is none of my business.

The DJ is one of those fragile paper kinds they used to use in the '50s, when most people still chucked them out. It has a chipped upper and lower spine and a bit missing on the back, which is just ads in any case. It looks pretty good and clean overall, and in its clear archival cover it's actually pretty snazzy.
