21x28, Hb, Dj, new copy, 88pp, 78 illustrations. Presents the works of the famous Polish sculptor and painter. She studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow under the eye of Prof. Xawery Dunikowski in the years 1929-1935. Still as student, she created the "Krakow Group" (Grupa Krakowska) with precisely defined artistic and social views. In art they professed not to accept painting favoured by academic professors. They referred to cubism and surrealism in their works. "Jaremianka" (as she was referred to by her friends) dealt primarily with sculpture at that time. She was slowly turning from expressive sculptures to non-objective works, affecting the observer mainly through forceful piling up masses and their construction, combing dynamics with self-discipline. Painting at that time belonged to her marginal interests. In the nineteen thirties, Maria Jarema was also designing costumes and decorations for the 'Cricot' Theatre created within the Group of Visual Artists.
