1814. Colour aquatint. 250mm by 300mm (platemark). The Clarendon Printing House, Theatre, & Museum' Published by Rudolf Ackermann for his 'History of Oxford'. The Clarendon Printing House was built in 1713 and housed the Oxford University press.

1796. Stipple engraving. 205mm by 120mm (platemark). Samuel Hearne (1745 - 1792) was an English explorer, fur-trader, author, and naturalist. He was the first European to make an overland excursion across northern Canada to the Arctic Ocean, actually Coronation Gulf, via the Coppermine River. In 1774, Hearne built Cumberland House for the Hudson's Bay Company, its first interior trading post and the first permanent settlement in present Saskatchewan.

He is best known for the biography he wrote of one of his contemporaries, the English literary figure Samuel Johnson. One foxing spot in the title area.

Portrait of Thomas Henry Huxley PC FRS (1825 -1895) who was an English biologist (anatomist), known as "Darwin's Bulldog" for his advocacy of Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. Huxley was made Assistant Surgeon ('surgeon's mate') to HMS Rattlesnake, about to start for a voyage of discovery and surveying to New Guinea and Australia. Jose Maria Mora (circa 1850-1926) was a successful Cuban portrait photographer working in New York. CONDITION : Card slightly unevenly cut. Reverse blank.

Marler was one of a number of pseudonyms that Alfred Edward (Ernest) Warner (1879-1968) used during the 1920s and 1930s for his more popular prints.
