Description:
Good. A sincere letter written by Charles N. Mackubin warning his brother, Richard C. Mackubin, against, wine, women and cards. The letter was written from Annapolis, Maryland and sent to "Mr. Richard C. Mackubin, Student of Medicine, Baltimore). This stampless letter has a postmark from "Annapolis" and a paid stamp. The letter is dated Sept 19th 1838 and is written in a clear hand. The letter measures 8" x 10" and is 3pp. The letter has two 2 ½" tears along the folds (affecting both leaves). Overall good. Raised in Maryland both Richard and Charles Mackubin would become civic leaders; Richard was in the state legislature of Maryland (1861) and Charles was a state Senator in Minnesota (1859-1860s). In this letter, when Charles Mackubin (1820-1863) was just 18, he warns his brother against "the excitement of the wine cup," "women's wiles," and the "maelstrom" that is gaming. From the letter we can tell that Charles was… Read More
