Nagapattinam-on the Tamil coast of southeastern India, and the site of a regional Buddhist center-has given its name to a tradition of bronze figures of the Buddha and other deities. Napier was helped greatly in his history of Peninsular War when the Duke of Wellington handed him Joseph Bonaparte's correspondence.
