Beginning with a discussion of Japanese Law in comparative legal studies, the reception of foreign law in Japan and the sources of Japanese law, the book then goes on to provide a thorough overview of Japanese Law, looking at individual subject areas in turn.

London Phrenological Institution, 1905. Hardcover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. In good to very good condition, red cloth boards with black edging and gilt titles to front. Some discolouration to board edges. Small stamp of Gall-Spurz-Combe, East Sheen, (presumably something to do with the author of the Definitions of Mental Faculties) to the front end paper, otherwise clean apart from the hand written entries by Stackpool O'Dell. A fully completed example of this booklet with 30 hand written pages to the rear, giving the character and advice for the future for one rather wayward youth, a William Barclay. This example certainly gives the implication that O'Dell may well have had the benefit of the Fathers opinion (or rather lack of it) of his Son before compiling his report. The results are certainly disparaging and recommend banishment abroad to work on the plantations should the callow youth not buckle down immediately to some sort of profession. Fascinating reading.

1st printing, translated from the German "Der Barras" by Constantine Fitzgibbon. Very good in good to very good unclipped dust jacket. Jacket has a couple of chips to top of spine and light shelf wear along top and bottom edges. Book itself in very good clean condition. The book has been compared to All Quiet on the Western Front, but in my opinion lacks the literary quality, though it does handle its subject very well. The novel covers German action in North Africa and France during WWII, and is told through the eyes of a German Private and his two companions. The authors contempt for the War Machine is apparent on nearly every page. This is quite a brutal book containing some horrific scenes.

Front hinge cracked and the first gather is a little loose binding is otherwise secure. Internally clean. 394pp 20cm x 14cm approx. Stories of everyday country life in Connemara in western Ireland in the latter half of the nineteenth century. Illustrated with 8 black and white plates and map.

Vaughan's partially biographical adventure story for boys set in the Lone Tree Lode in Colorado, about a young Welsh boy who is sent to sea under his Father's cousin's guardianship. On reaching America and fired by tales of the Wild West he runs away to seek his fortune. The story is told largely in the form of letters the boy writes home to his mother.
