Unusual cover art -- an image of a man with a gun peering around a door -- wraps from spine to front. Deckled edges. Red/orange top stain. Dust jacket shows edgewear and rubbing, with chipping at corners and spine ends (with loss to "The" at head), a number of shallow tears along edges with clear tape repair to interior, and a dampstain down spine extending onto front panel, not affecting the cloth beneath. Slight lean to boards. Binding shaken with linen showing through front hinge, text block feels secure. Top stain faded. Pages are clean and unmarked.

Navy cloth binding with text and illustration stamped in orange. Dust jacket shows a large chip at head of spine with loss of title, sizeable dampstain over top of spine and onto back panel, and a couple of long tears along folds, along with more shallow chips and tears along edges and soiling / smudging to surface. Edges of cloth are rubbed with head of spine chipped away and frayed. Binding shaken, but holding. Prior owner's name stamped on front pastedown, else pages unmarked. Lacks Doran logo on copyright, though Doran was occasionally inconsistent in this practice. We have seen others note this was a title whose First Edition appeared without the logo, but have not ourselves managed to confirm this via secondary references.

Some narrow white scuff marks on panel surfaces and spine. Signs of water on rear panel near foot of spine, but no seepage into hinge or textblock. Joints and hinges very robust. Textblock unmarred and unmarked though a few foxing speckles present on textblock fore-edge.
