Gift inscription "For Adelle C Welsh [?] from her father, July 13th 1854" on front pastedown, with some offsetting to front free endpaper. Pages toned throughout with light to moderate foxing. Navy cloth binding with text and illustration stamped in orange. Dust jacket shows a large chip at head of spine with loss of title, sizeable dampstain over top of spine and onto back panel, and a couple of long tears along folds, along with more shallow chips and tears along edges and soiling / smudging to surface. Edges of cloth are rubbed with head of spine chipped away and frayed. Binding shaken, but holding. Prior owner's name stamped on front pastedown, else pages unmarked. Lacks Doran logo on copyright, though Doran was occasionally inconsistent in this practice. We have seen others note this was a title whose First Edition appeared without the logo, but have not ourselves managed to confirm this via secondary references.
