All edges gilt, black endpapers, 576pp on india paper. Contained within a leather slip case with a letter 'M' stamped on the front in gilt. The book has been well protected by its slip case and clean and bright with just a little wear to the spine. Internally there is a short note to the front free endpaper and the occasional very small corner crease. Inside the book are a number of four leaf clovers pressed within the pages. This is a glorious colour original illustration by Edwin Phillips of Robin Hood and two of his men surprising the Sheriff of Nottingham who has Maid Marion with him on horseback. It is signed 'Edwin Phillips'. The main image is 31 x 37cm, is painted on a hard board measuring 38 x 43cm. The board has a 2.5cm closed tear at the bottom right, no affecting the illustration. The verso of the board has the remains of a sticker at the centre with a partial London address and its original tissue guard is attached. This illustration is in very good condition with crisp vibrant colours.
