Published June 1st 1774 as the Act Directs by Wm Pars, in Percy St, London.'William Pars (1742-1782) was elected to the Royal Academy in 1770., the same year he joined his patron Henry Temple, Lord Palmerston in a scientific exploration of the Swiss Alps guided by the Swiss naturalist Horace-Benedict de Saussure. The drawings from this tour were the first Alpine drawings shown in London (in 1771), combining realism with a lyrical feeling for the grandeur and scale of the mountain peaks. In 1783 John Boydell published a series of 'Six views made for Lord Palmerston in 1770' of Switzerland engraved by William Woollett after William Pars including this one.William Woollett (1735-85)was an important English 18th century line engraver.

From "Delle Antiche Statue Greche e Romane..., "a collection of ancient Greek and Roman statues found in Venice by Antonio Maria Zanetti the elder (1680-1757). As the librarian of San Marco, Zanetti was a collector, connoisseur, and artist.Framed in fine quality black frame with cream mount with gilt lines. Original descriptive text in Latin on the reverse.One mark at the top right of the image.

As the author of two highly influential pamphlets at the start of the American Revolution, he inspired the Patriots in 1776 to declare independence from Britain.
