Sixteen tipped-in color plates by Dulac, as opposed to 40 in the 1908 First Edition, although the front cover here is nicer. The earliest copies in this format, circa 1910, had gilt titles instead of the green and sometimes blue of this later printing.

All 16 tipped-in plates and their decorative pages are present and pristine. Solid binding, straight pages, front board illustration in nice shape except for bumped corners including old tape repair on the bottom right. The real issue here is the spine. It's foxed with spots worn in the cloth and some separation at the bottom. The back cover and rear endpapers have some staining that looks like a drip of actual wood stain.

As-new and unread; binding deep green and gilt, in some kind of soft, high-friction pleather material, unmarked inside and out.
Price-clipped jacket (of vulnerable uncoated, textured rag paper) has apparently performed its job well: sunned spine, wearthrough on two folds (bottom right on each board), some scratches in the ink border on front extending 1/4" from right edge and bottom. Sunning in this case just makes the paper into an attractive textured rag paper with no dye on it, but only sharp black text. It still looks quite good spine-out in a bookcase. Equipped with a Brodart sleeve. 
Overall, on the infrequent but certain occasions on which Ninian Smart's first book is the one needed, here's a nice copy of that.

Front hinge is repaired, spine cloth hanging on for dear life. Otherwise, all plates are present and pristine and this edition has the full twelve of them. The rest of the interior pages are sharp, uncreased and unmarked except for an owner's inscription in pencil. All gilt is nice and bright. Cover boards are nice and green.

This edition features the full 12 color plates by Arthur Rackham issued over a series of editions beginning with the 1899, no color plates first. This edition is equivalent to the green bound Temple edition sometimes listed as published in 1937. According to the publisher's note here, the 1939 edition is the first of its kind. Binding is very presentable with a bit of foxing at the top spine edge and lower spine. Gilt is in good shape. Tight binding, no issues aside from pencilled owner's name on ffep.
